Jes

I've always loved reading when I was growing up, and to this day I still find myself cuddling up under a cozy blanket, wearing my favorite hoody, and reading a good book. When I first started reading I only read for the enjoyment of hearing the stories and passing the time. Now as I have grown as a reader, I read to be inside of the story, to feel the wind blow as the characters in the book do. To understand the emotions they go through, now I read to relate to them; and to realize that I can often find myself getting lost in their experiences.
I've always loved writing and I sometimes write for enjoyment, but I can't ever really tell whether or not my writing is good, I guess that I do it mostly because sometimes it really does make me feel better - and that's all that matters to me.
I feel like I am a fairly strong reader, but I often doubt myself when it comes to my writing because I am never sure whether or not it is good. Reading new books excites me, as long as the story line is something I can find interesting, writing assignments, however, always intimidate me.
I grew up with a very large loving family, and we've always been pretty close. Especially my older brother Kyle and I. I grew up in St. Joseph and I've lived a very athletic lifestyle.
I'm 18 years old and I live with my boyfriend in our two bedroom house. He is my high school sweetheart and he never seems to stop amazing me. He is always there to help me through anything, and Im very positive that one day we will have a beautiful family. He is a junior and attending Missouri Western.

  1. Hi Jes,

Welcome to 104. I'm happy that you have chosen to enroll in my class this semester. If you have taken 100 before, it will certainly be different than this class.

Judging by how much you love to read, I don't doubt your passion. It is always difficult to judge whether or not we are good readers. In the fall semester, my students and I read "For the Love of Books" by Richard Rodriquez (e.g. which is a short 3 to 5 page essay). Rodriguez was intimidated by books as a child until he had someone share her love of the written word. Thus, he too read everything he could get his hands on. However, my students were surprised at the end of the story where Rodriguez confessed that he was not a good reader. If you are interested in reading the story, let me know and I can make you a copy.

So what are you reading at the moment?

  2. My favorite author is Mitch Albom, my favorite book being "Tuesdays With Morrie." I'm currently reading "have a little faith" by Mitch Albom. I haven't gotten very far into but it has been pretty interesting so far. I love to read and I could also read almost anything I got my hands on. One night last summer I stayed up all night and read the book "The Five People You Meet In Heaven," I started at page one and didnt stop until I finished. I literally couldn't stop reading it. If you haven't read it I highly reccomend it. It is also written by Albom.
